The leadership and Members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, Abia State chapter, led by Comrade Sunday Kalu as chairman, has embarked on indefinite strike yesterday Monday 10th February, 2025 over non compliance by the State Government on full implementation of the House Administrative Autonomy, financial Autonomy, and Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS) according to the Chairman.
The leadership of the Union locked the Assembly entrance gate with padlock and also hang their union flex stating one among the three of her demands why they embarked on the indefinite strike.
Speaking to the Assembly correspondences, the PASAN Chairman, Comrade kalu said that the Union leadership during last year November 2024 suspended her industrial action on the same demands after her discussion with the representatives of State Government at the office of the Chief of Staff to the Governor in Government House umuahia, and nothing was done untill they issued 7 days ultimatum that has expired recently and the members has no option than to embark on indefinite strike pending when the State Government will do the needful.
Kalu further said, that the Members of Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission that suppose to handle Administrative Autonomy is somehow handicap, because all the files of the Assembly staff has been moved to office of the State Head of Service making their job to be difficult.
He also expressed concern why then former Head of Service and her Staff decided to disobey the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended and law no 8 of 2019 of the the Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission which empowers the Assembly Service Commission to be Independent likewise Judiciary Service Commission, and State Civil Service Commission.
Comrade Kalu noted that the indefinite strike was the directives of the PASAN National Body, considering the ways and manner Government representatives are handling the Union demands in the State since the inauguration of members of the Assembly Service Commission last year.
Comrade Kalu further urge State Government to obey the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended and the law no 8 of 2019 that established the Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission so as to enable the Commission function independently, he said.
