Peter Obi Condemns Killing of 10 in Anambra, Calls for Justice

Peter Obi condemns Ogboji killings

Former presidential candidate and Labour Party leader, Mr. Peter Obi, has condemned in strong terms the gruesome killing of 10 innocent citizens in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, describing the attack as a shocking act of unprovoked violence.

In a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obi expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling the loss of innocent lives “unacceptable” and warning that the normalisation of such brutality must be firmly resisted.

“The murder of defenceless Nigerians by criminal elements must never be normalised,” Obi wrote. “I condole with the families of the deceased and pray for the swift recovery of the injured.”

Obi underscored that the freedom to live, move, and assemble peacefully remains a fundamental constitutional right that should be protected across Nigeria. He warned against the growing trend of impunity and the dangers of allowing any individual or group to act above the law.

“This act of unprovoked violence is totally unacceptable. No individual or group should be allowed to operate above the law,” he stated.

Calling for swift justice, Obi urged the authorities to launch a prompt and thorough investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, stressing that justice must not only be done but be seen to be done, in order to restore public confidence and deter future violence.

He also appealed for increased vigilance, especially among residents in volatile regions, and extended heartfelt prayers for the souls of the departed and the families left behind.

“May the souls of the departed find eternal rest, and may God comfort their families in this time of sorrow,” Obi concluded.

The attack in Ogboji has sparked renewed calls for improved security in rural communities across the Southeast, where intermittent violence has continued to raise tensions and displace residents.
