Numerous members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State have made a momentous decision to join the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC), accompanied by their staunch supporters.
The pivotal event unfolded at the party’s secretariat in Enugu, where a notable array of PDP figures formally declared their allegiance to the APC.
Among the prominent defectors were Senator Chukwuka Utazi, distinguished for his tenure as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Anti-corruption and Financial Crimes, and Ambassador Fidelia Njeze, who had previously served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Joining them in this monumental defection were several other political stalwarts, including Davidson Nnamani, Juliet Oloto, Chika Idoko, Jonathan Eze, and Mr Umunna Ugwu, Ezi-Obodo Idodo, who had previously been affiliated with the Young Progressives Party.
The significance of this mass defection was underscored by the presence of eminent APC leaders, who graced the occasion with their attendance.
Among them were the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, who also serves as the APC leader in Enugu State, as well as the APC National Deputy Chairman South, Emma Eneukwu, and the APC National Vice Chairman South East, Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu.
Senator Utazi, representing the Enugu North Senatorial District in the hallowed chambers of the National Assembly, elucidated the rationale behind his decision to sever ties with the PDP and embrace the APC.
His primary motivation stemmed from a fervent desire to bolster the aspirations of Igbo presidency, a cause he deemed paramount for the socio-political advancement of the Igbo people.
Moreover, he articulated a compelling argument for the necessity of fortifying Enugu’s representation at the national level, viewing the APC as the conduit through which this objective could be realized.
In a passionate address to the gathering, Senator Utazi expounded upon the imperative of engaging in mainstream national politics, positing that membership in the APC would furnish him and his compatriots with unparalleled opportunities to exert substantial influence and effectuate tangible contributions to the overarching goal of national development.
He elucidated, “As a national politician, I am cognizant of the indispensable role played by centralized politics in shaping the trajectory of our nation. It has become abundantly clear to me that the prevailing political landscape in Enugu is incapable of propelling our beloved state towards its full potential.
Therefore, I have taken the decisive step of relinquishing my affiliation with the PDP. I firmly believe that the APC offers the most viable platform for effecting meaningful change at the national level.
By aligning myself with the APC, I am not merely seeking personal advancement; rather, I am steadfastly committed to the collective pursuit of Igbo presidency, a noble cause that transcends individual interests.”
Moreover, Senator Utazi reiterated his unwavering dedication to serving as a humble servant within the APC, recognizing that genuine progress could only be attained through selfless dedication and unwavering commitment to the party’s ethos.
In a similar vein, Ambassador Fidelia Njeze echoed Senator Utazi’s sentiments, affirming her staunch support for the APC and its overarching vision of transformative leadership.
She emphasized the imperative of transcending partisan divides in pursuit of a common goal, emphasizing that the APC represented a beacon of hope for the Nigerian populace.
The resounding chorus of support for the APC reverberated throughout the gathering, as each defector articulated their fervent belief in the party’s capacity to effectuate positive change and usher in an era of unprecedented progress. In his capacity as the APC National Deputy Chairman South, Emma Eneukwu extended a warm welcome to the newly-minted members, exhorting them to embrace the principles of party discipline and eschew any semblance of anti-party activities.
He underscored the imperative of unity within the party ranks, emphasizing that only through collective cohesion could the APC fulfill its mandate of delivering dividends of democracy to the Nigerian people.
As the sun set on this historic day, Enugu State bore witness to a seismic shift in its political landscape, heralding the dawn of a new era characterized by unity, purpose, and unwavering commitment to the common good.
