The cabinet and people of Okahia Autonomous Community in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State have reaffirmed their support for Governor Alex Otti, citing his visible achievements in infrastructure and governance.

The declaration was made by the traditional ruler of the community, HRM Eze Okey Jacob Ananaba, when he hosted the former Labour Party candidate for Obingwa West State Constituency, Hon. Peter Azubuike, and his team during a courtesy visit to his palace.

Eze Ananaba praised Governor Otti for what he described as “creditable performance,” noting that the community is pleased with the reforms and infrastructural developments across the state, including those affecting Okahia.

He recalled that the community had overwhelmingly supported the governor during the 2023 general election, where Otti won in eight out of the nine polling units in the area, losing only one by a margin of five votes.

The monarch assured that Okahia would sustain its loyalty to the state government, declaring that Governor Otti deserves to complete eight years in office. He also wished his guest, Azubuike, success in his future political pursuits and pledged the community’s support for him when he contests again.

In his remarks, Hon. Azubuike said his visit was part of efforts to reawaken quality leadership in the Old Obiọma Ngwa bloc. He decried what he termed “poor representation” by political office holders from the area, stressing that Obingwa has continued to lag behind due to ineffective leadership.

Azubuike called on the people of Obingwa to rally behind Governor Otti, insisting that continued opposition politics would deprive the local government of democratic dividends. He faulted the failure of political heavyweights in Obingwa to openly endorse the governor, warning that such silence could deny the area the governor’s attention.

As part of his philanthropic gesture, the politician pledged to offset the school fees of children of some of the women present at the meeting, particularly those whose children are pursuing tertiary education, and also promised to provide business empowerment support to two others to help them scale up their enterprises, assuring that he would redeem the pledge within a few days after his team confirms the beneficiaries, adding that uplifting the people is what gives him satisfaction in life.

He was accompanied by the Secretary to Obingwa Local Government Council, Dr. Henry Ahukanna; the former Transition Committee Vice Chairman of Obingwa and former PDP Women Leader, Mrs. Ijeoma Ngozi; President of Obingwa Youth Summit, Ogechi Akubuodo, among others.
