Tragedy struck in Imo State on Tuesday night as unidentified gunmen launched a brazen attack on the Isiala-Mbano Local Government Area’s headquarters, resulting in the tragic loss of two vigilante members and significant property damage.
Eyewitnesses described the chaos as the attackers stormed the secretariat around 8:30 PM, unleashing sporadic gunfire that claimed the lives of the two vigilantes guarding the council’s headquarters.
The assailants then set several cars parked at the council premises ablaze, causing widespread destruction and chaos. Parts of the council building were also reportedly set on fire, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, with no group claiming responsibility as of the time of reporting. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many residents fleeing to neighboring villages in fear.
The state police command has deployed tactical teams to apprehend those responsible for the crime, according to spokesman Henry Okoye.
