Gov. Uzodimma launches Imocare

Owerri, Imo State – In a renewed push to deliver accessible and affordable healthcare to citizens, Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has announced the commencement of a massive enrollment drive for the Imo State Health Insurance Scheme, branded as ImoCare. The exercise will kick off across the state’s 654 communities on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

Governor Uzodimma made the announcement via a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to providing quality healthcare for all residents of Imo State.

“Our commitment to ensuring that ndi Imo have access to quality healthcare services has been unwavering and is reflected in the numerous measures and reforms we have implemented over time, including the establishment of the Imo State Health Insurance Scheme,” the Governor wrote.

According to the Governor, the enrollment campaign—spearheaded by the Imo State Health Insurance Agency (IMSHIA)—is aimed at widening access to the scheme at subsidized rates, ensuring inclusivity and affordability for all Imolites.

He called on all citizens and residents of Imo State to take advantage of this opportunity by enrolling in the ImoCare Health Insurance Program, which offers year-round access to reliable, affordable, and quality healthcare services.

“I therefore encourage ndi Imo nile and all residents of our dear State to seize this opportunity and enroll in the ImoCare Health Insurance Program,” he added.

A Major Milestone in Health Sector Reform

Since assuming office, Governor Uzodimma has prioritized healthcare system reforms, introducing various initiatives to improve infrastructure, personnel training, and healthcare financing. The ImoCare rollout across all communities marks a significant step in institutionalizing universal health coverage (UHC) at the grassroots level in the state.

Observers have described the move as a critical intervention that aligns with national and global health goals, especially in a time when many households struggle to afford out-of-pocket medical expenses.

For more details on how to enroll, residents are advised to contact their community health desk officers or visit any IMSHIA-approved health center.
