FUTO Medical School Secures Accreditation, Doubles Student Quota

The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has secured accreditation for its medical school.

South East Reporters gathered that the medical school equally secured a significant increase in student quota, doubling from 50 to 100 annually.

Meanwhile, many molites have regarded the news from FUTO as a major victory for education and healthcare in Imo State and thanked the Governor, Hope Uzodimma for playing a huge role.

Professor Bond Anyaehie, the pioneer Provost of the FUTO Medical School said that FUTO’s achievement was made possible through the unwavering support of Governor Uzodimma.

According to Professor Anyaehie”With maximum support from His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodimma, and to the glory of God, I have today secured accreditation for the FUTO Medical school and with a 100% increase in quota from 50 to 100 medical students.”

Speaking further while receiving the team from medical and dental council of Nigeria at the teaching hospital, Owerri, Anyaehie said “With this accreditation, FUTO College of Medicine will now be listed in the world directory of medical schools as the former FMC will now be legally be addressed as a teaching hospital.”

The Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Public Enlightenment, Prince Eze Ugochukwu, said that Governor Uzodimma’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure in the state has played a crucial role in the successful accreditation of the FUTO Medical School.

He said that Uzodimma facilitated the upgrade of the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Owerri to a teaching hospital, creating a vital training ground for future medical professionals from FUTO.

According to him, this upgrade will not only enhance the quality of healthcare delivery in the state but also provide invaluable hands-on experience for FUTO medical students.

Ugochukwu said that Governor Uzodimma’s support has extended to the recruitment of qualified staff for the medical school.

He added that the Governor has also actively attracted key personnel, including Professor Bond Anyaehie from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), to lead the FUTO Medical School.
