The Forum of Southeast Professors (FOSEP) has expressed its commendation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent appointments to the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC). This move is seen as a significant step towards addressing the age – old cries of marginalization by the region, fostering regional development and addressing the unique challenges faced by the Southeast region of Nigeria.
In a statement released by FOSEP and signed by the President Prof. Victor Ukaogo and Public Affairs Director, Prof Okechukwu Nwaubani, the organization highlighted the importance of the SEDC in promoting economic growth, infrastructure development, and social cohesion in the Southeast. The appointments are viewed as a strategic effort to ensure that the voices of the Southeast are adequately represented in national discussions and decision-making processes.

The Forum said it was a clear step in addressing the failed efforts at realizing the Three Rs as enunciated the former head of state – Gen. Yakubu Gowon after the end of the civil war in 1970.
FOSEP emphasized that the newly appointed members will certainly bring their wealth of experience and expertise that will be instrumental in driving the Commission’s agenda. The Professors noted that the President’s pick for the various positions underscore his clear understanding and vision to return the Southeast to winning ways as these appointments reflect a commitment to inclusivity and regional representation, which are crucial for sustainable development.
Furthermore, FOSEP urged the appointees to prioritize key areas such as education, regional transportation, healthcare, and job creation, which are vital for the upliftment of the Southeast. The organization believes that with the right leadership and vision, the SEDC can play a pivotal role in transforming the region into a hub of economic activity and innovation.
The Forum reiterated its support for President Tinubu’s administration and called for collaborative efforts between the government, academia, and local communities to achieve the developmental goals set forth for the Southeast. The Forum remains optimistic that these appointments will lead to meaningful progress and a brighter future for the region.
