His Royal Majesty, Eze O.J. Ananaba, the Eze Okahia I of Okahia Kingdom and former Chairman of the Obingwa Traditional Rulers Council, has applauded the Abia State Government for flagging off a house-to-house environmental sanitation inspection, popularly known as “Ndi Ole Ala”.
The initiative, which commenced on June 26, 2025, was officially launched by the Executive Governor of Abia State and is being implemented through the State Ministry of Health using trained public health officers. The campaign is aimed at improving public hygiene, sanitation compliance, and community health across the state.
Speaking on the significance of the exercise, Eze Ananaba described the initiative as a landmark step in the governor’s commitment to building a clean and healthy Abia. He noted that traditional rulers across the state are expected to play active roles in driving the success of the program at the grassroots level.
According to the royal father, traditional leaders can contribute by:
- Sensitizing their communities on the health and social benefits of proper sanitation practices.
- Mobilizing town criers and palace councils to spread the message effectively.
- Encouraging compliance with hygiene regulations to avoid public health risks.
- Offering support and information to inspection teams.
- Mediating disputes that may arise during inspections.
- Monitoring progress and submitting community-level feedback to the state government.
Eze Ananaba affirmed that the sanitary inspection campaign aligns with the broader agenda of the present administration and signals that “a new Abia is possible and already unfolding.”
He urged all traditional institutions in Abia State to join hands with the government in ensuring peaceful, clean, and sustainable environments for the people, especially in rural and semi-urban communities where sanitation challenges persist.
