
Anambra School, CKC, has made history by representing Nigeria and defeating teams from the USA and Turkey to clinch first place in a global competition.
At the prestigious World Affairs Challenge (WAC) 2024, held in Onitsha, Anambra, Nigeria, Christ the King College (CKC) emerged victorious, marking Nigeria’s first-ever gold medal in the competition’s 32-year history.
The World Affairs Challenge, organized by WorldDenver, empowers high school students to develop innovative solutions for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This year, students addressed critical issues like climate change, poverty, and inequality.Led by their coach, Mr. John Onuigbo, students Ekufu Ernest, Obuna Somtochukwu, Umeodinka Emmanuel, Ejike Ekene, and Ubah Jason impressed judges with their project, “Wise Tales by Primus,” a series of digital comic stories addressing environmental degradation, climate change, and substance abuse. The project aims to raise awareness and inspire positive change among young people.
CKC Onitsha’s journey began at the African Regional Competition, where they were named the highest-scoring Nigerian team and ranked in the top five in Africa.
Advancing to the virtual global finals, the team’s in-depth understanding and passionate delivery during the final Q&A session left a lasting impression on the judges.
Delivering the judgment, the judges praised the team’s outstanding performance, stating, “Excellent presentation and applications of SMART indexes with extraordinary action plans for global outreach through language translation and website creative solutions dynamics. This is innovative, creative, and illustrious.”
They were officially declared the World Affairs Challenge 2024 Global Champion, surpassing teams from around the world. Redmond High School, WA, USA, and TEVITÖL High School, Turkey, secured third and second place, respectively.

In a series of tweets, Obi expressed his delight at learning about CKC Onitsha’s outstanding triumph at the WAC 2024, organized by WorldDenver. He highlighted that this victory marks the first time Nigeria has clinched Gold in the competition’s 32-year history, with CKC Onitsha surpassing teams from across the globe, including the USA and Turkey.
Obi commended the Nigerian students for their exemplary performance and their winning project, “Wize Tales by Primus,” aimed at addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and empowering Nigerian youths to drive positive change in society.
Reflecting on CKC Onitsha’s journey, Obi recalled their earlier achievements in January as National Champions and Regional Top in the Africa Regional competition. He celebrated their determination and urged them to remain focused on achieving global success.
Obi emphasized the importance of investing in education for national development, citing CKC Onitsha as a beneficiary of his support during his tenure as Governor of Anambra State. He expressed pride in the school’s remarkable achievements and reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing education in building the New Nigeria of his vision.
