The Anambra State government has issued a directive requiring schools to conclude their daily academic activities no later than 2:30 p.m., aligning with the guidelines set forth by the United Nations (UN).
This decision, announced by Anambra’s Commissioner for Education, Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, aims to prioritize the well-being of schoolchildren by ensuring they have sufficient time for rest and meaningful interactions with their families.
In a statement released on Monday in Awka, Ms. Chuma-Udeh emphasized that this directive reflects Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to promoting a healthy balance between academic pursuits and personal well-being among students.
“Governor Soludo envisions a scenario where schoolchildren have ample time to recharge and engage with their parents before embarking on the next day’s activities,” she explained.
The Commissioner underscored the importance of all school heads in Anambra State adhering to this directive, emphasizing the need for strict compliance to ensure the effective implementation of the new schedule.
“It is imperative that all schools in the state adhere to this directive and conclude their academic activities by 2:30 p.m.,” she stated firmly.
According to Ms. Chuma-Udeh, the revised closing time will facilitate students’ return home by 3:00 p.m., allowing them to enjoy quality time with their families and engage in extracurricular activities or personal pursuits.
This adjustment seeks to promote holistic development among students, recognizing the significance of their social and emotional well-being alongside academic achievement.
By prioritizing adequate rest and family interactions, the Anambra State government aims to create a nurturing environment conducive to the overall growth and development of schoolchildren.
This proactive measure reflects a commitment to fostering a balanced and supportive educational experience that prioritizes the holistic well-being of students across the state.
