The Foundation for Environmental Rights Advocacy and Development (FENRAD) has called on the Abia State Government to engage with civil society organizations and stakeholders ahead of the planned nationwide protests. This move is aimed at ensuring peace, stability, and constructive dialogue within the state.
Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, CEO of FENRAD, emphasized the importance of open dialogue between the government and civil society. “We believe that open dialogue is crucial in maintaining peace and order during times of heightened tension. The planned nationwide protests reflect the genuine concerns of the people, and it is only through constructive engagement that these concerns can be addressed effectively.”
FENRAD’s call to action follows the example set by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Lagos State, who recently met with civil society and self-determination groups to discuss the need for peace.
“Engagement with civil actors will provide a platform for addressing concerns and finding common ground on pressing issues,” Nwafor added. “We urge the Abia State Government to take immediate steps to engage with civil society organizations, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders.”
By engaging with civil society, the government can foster a peaceful environment and demonstrate its commitment to listening to and addressing the needs of its citizens. FENRAD stands ready to support efforts that promote peace and inclusivity.
“We are committed to advocating for environmental and social justice,” Nwafor said. “We believe that through constructive engagement, we can find solutions to the pressing issues facing our state and nation.”
