The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State Chapter, has assured the promoters of the “Made in Aba Film Project” (Chronicles of Enyimba City) of its full support, as they gear towards the flag-off of the project on 14th November, 2025.
Addressing a team from the project in his office, Abia NUJ Chairman Comrade Chidi Asonye said that NUJ is not against anything that will bring growth and development to the state and is always ready to partner with any group that is interested in bringing growth and development.
South-East Reporters reports that a team from the project led by the producer, Mr Francis Ifeakandu, paid the NUJ Chairman, a courtesy visit in his office in Umuahia to solicit the support of the union and equally introduce the film project to him.
Asonye, who welcomed the team, went on to assure them that NUJ Abia will channel its professionalism and ethical rules of journalism to report whatever it takes to ensure that the society where it operates from grows.
“Aba is a popular city, and what you want to do is to place the city more on the map, and it’s a welcomed development. Since you deemed it important to consult us for this project, we’ll not deny you our services.
“Whatever that will bring growth and development of the Enyimba City, we’re in. If you’re prepared, we’re ready.
“For making this step, it shows you respect our profession. It’s unfortunate that whoever has any smartphone today, which he can use to post anything today, is called a journalist.
“However, it’s important to know whatever you’re doing from the professional angle, and our training has given us the necessary advantage, including an image to protect.
“We want Abia to grow, so whatever will bring the growth and development of Abia State is sweet music to our ears.
“We have our watchdog role to play, and we are doing it without mincing words, but we also have other roles which we are not joking with.
“When our land is fully developed and hospitality and tourism thrives, I don’t think our people will be rushing out to spent mo ey in other countries.
“So, your mission is good, and we’re developmentally orientated and very ready to work for the good of our land.”
Speaking earlier, Mr Francis Ifeakandu, the producer of the film, told Asonye that the team knows the importance of journalism profession the roles journalists play in the success of every project and deemed it extremely important to establish a relationship that will outlive even the project.
Ifeakandu pleaded with the NUJ Chairman to galvanise his members to help the team, as the necessary messages about the project will soon be rolling out to the public.
