Homeless in Service: Abia Man O’ War Cries Out for Alternative Office Accommodation After Sudden Eviction by GADA

Abia Man O’ War Cries Out for Alternative Office

The Abia State Command of Man O’ War Nigeria is today caught in a heartbreaking condition. An agency built on discipline, service, and sacrifice, now has no place to call office.

For many years, the Command operated from its office at Georges Street, Aba – a place the agency itself renovated and jealously maintained with limited resources. That office served as a coordination centre for operations that supported security agencies, restored order during public engagements, trained youths, and responded in times of emergency.

Without prior notice, that modest but functional office was taken over by the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA). The eviction that followed was sudden, devastating and heartbreaking.

Furniture, fittings, and essential office equipment worth millions of naira were thrown out and left exposed to the elements. Torrential rains destroyed what years of sacrifice had built. Today, these damaged properties lie abandoned in a hidden classroom at Constitution Crescent Primary School, Aba — a painful reminder of an institution pushed to the margins (see video).

The situation is no longer just about damaged property; it is about displacement and dignity.

The Commander, officers, and men of the Abia State Man O’ War Command currently have no office accommodation. They operate without a base, without proper storage, without a place to plan, train, or coordinate. Yet, they are expected to continue serving the state with efficiency and discipline.

Man O’ War Nigeria has consistently complemented the efforts of conventional security agencies in maintaining peace, promoting civic responsibility, and restoring discipline across Abia State. From crowd control to emergency response and community engagement, their contributions have been quiet but invaluable.

It is deeply concerning that Abia State Command remains the only Man O’ War Command in the entire country without office accommodation.

This reality undermines not only the morale of the officers, but also the effectiveness of an agency that the state depends on in critical moments. Institutions cannot function in the absence of structure, and service cannot thrive where there is neglect.

The command makes an emotional but urgent appeal to the Government of Abia State, appealing to the performing Governor to hear her cry and provide the agency with office accommodation to enable the Abia State Command of Man O’ War Nigeria to function effectively.

This request is not for privilege, but for inclusiveness. Not for comfort, but for functionality. Abia State, being a government that values security, discipline, and youth development, must not allow an agency committed to these ideals to remain homeless.

Abia Man O’ War is ready to continue serving. All it asks for is a place to stand, a roof under which to operate, and the assurance that its sacrifices are seen and valued.
