The Labour Party (LP) in Abia State, Nigeria, has announced a significant shake-up in its internal structure, dissolving the State Disciplinary Committee and appointing a new one.

In a public announcement dated October 23, 2025, the Abia State Working Committee (SWC) declared the immediate dissolution of the disciplinary committee, which had been led by Mr. Uche Achugbuo. The party cited “a complete dereliction of their duties and roles” and the “involvement of the leadership in anti-party activities” as the reasons for the action.

A new three-man committee has been constituted with immediate effect. The members are:

  • Chairman: Hon. Udo Kingsley Ihediwa
  • Secretary: Hon. Tobias Egeonu
  • Member: Hon. Austin Ehiemere

The dissolved team, led by Mr. Uche Achugbuo, has been “advised to discontinue parading themselves as such” and to hand over all necessary correspondence to the new leadership.

The announcement was signed by the party’s Acting State Chairman, Hon. Prince G.O Ndubueze, and the Acting State Secretary, Hon. John Igbojionu O. Copies of the notice were directed to the Commissioner of Police, Abia State, and the State Director of the DSS.
