Abia Assembly Passes Local Government Administrative Bill into Law.

The 8th Abia State House of Assembly at plenary has passed HAB 6, the Abia State local Government Administrative bill, 2025 sponsored by the House Majority leader, Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu into law.

The law is to provide for the establishment, structure, composition, finance, and functions of local Government Councils in Abia State and for other related purposes.

Announcing the cheering news at plenary, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa congratulated his colleagues for given their accelerated supports to the passage of the bill into law and noted that the law shall take effect starting from today dated 25th day of March 2025.

In a similar development, the House also allowed the Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Okezie Augustine the sponsor of HAM 37 to lead a debate on his motion which titled; Motion on the need to establish Committee on South East Development Commission liaison and cooperation to ensure participatory development in Abia State.

Speaking on the motion, Rt. Hon. Okezie, said that the establishment of the Committee by the State House will help to attract numerous projects from the newly established South East Development Commission to the State and urged his colleagues to unanimously support the motion.

Responding, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Emeruwa commended Deputy speaker for bring the motion and also noted that he will announce members of the committee by the next sitting.

Furthermore, the Speaker of the House also read a letter address to his office by a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing the people of isuikwuato State Constituency, Hon. Lucky Udoka Nweke Johnson.

Hon. Lucky through the letter inform the House officially on his resignation from PDP to join labour party in the State based on the outstanding performances and leadership qualities of the State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti since he assumed office as State chief executive, according to him.

The Lawmaker further said that every sensible Abians’ can see that the state is taken a good look since the emergence of the present administration in the State, that he has no regret in joining labour party because he has already reached out to his constituents and stakeholders about his decision, he added.

The House also deferred items number 3 & 4 on the order paper to adjourned plenary to reconvene on Wednesday 26th March, 2025 by 10am.
