As part of preventive measures to address the incessant Erosion menace threatening the life and properties of people of Ebem and Amaekpu in Ohafia local Government area of Abia State over the years.
The Chairman House committee on the Environment, Urban Renewal and New-map at the 8th Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Nwoke Kalu Mba (Ohafia South) a.k.a Etiokwe and members of his Committee, visited the following erosion sites in Ohafia local government areas of the State.
The erosion sites are as follows; Ekeluogo erosion site ebem, Ndi Ukpolo erosion site ebem, Ndi inyima compound erosion site ebem, Ndi nsi eziukwu / Ndi idika awa erosion site ebem, Uzo Nkpogolo erosion site ebem Ohafia road leading to federal Government college Ohafia, onyirimba road erosion site Amaekpu and bakasi avenue Amaekpu erosion site etc.
The committee members unanimously expressed shock over the levels of destruction already caused by the erosion menace so far to the people of Ebem and Amaekpu in Ohafia LGA. They also promise to give recommendations that would draw the attention of both the State and federal Government to the affected areas and described the various erosion sites as death traps.
Speaking Earlier, the Mayor of Ohafia LGA, Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu in his office at Ohafia local Government area, welcome Hon. Nwoke Kalu Mba and members of his committee for coming to the aid of his people describing the oversight function as a welcome development.
Also, HRH Eze Ukoha Kalu Ukoha of Ebem ohafia kingdom who was represented by his traditional prime Minister, Chief Kalu Okorie, extolled Hon. Nwoke Kalu Mba for his leadership qualities and outstanding records of achievement urging him not to relent his efforts in speaking for his people noting that erosion has destroyed many buildings within compounds in the Ebem ohafia kingdom. Similarly, Mr Kalu Ogboso Nnoke the second assistant secretary general of Ebem ohafia development Union, said that several age grade groups have spent over four hundred million naira 400,000, 000 on the preventive measures of erosion menace within Ebem ohafia kingdom over the years, he joined his people to appeal to the State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti and the federal Government to came to their rescue and also commended Hon. Nwoke Kalu Mba for raising the matter at the floor of the House recently.
The following committee members, Hon. Nwoke Kalu Mba (Chairman), Hon. Nnamdi Chimdi Ibekwe (member Bende North), Hon. Lucky Nweke Johnson (Member Isuikwuato), Hon. Ume Matthias (Member Umunneochi), Mrs Ukwu Amaka (committee secretary), Jennifer Chukwudi (assist. Committee Secretary) including Eme Iro Eme (Ohafia Deputy Mayor), Ohafia elected Councillors and stakeholders of Ebem and Amaekpu Ohafia, the youths as well as Eze in council in Ebem Ohafia were all present during the oversight function.
