24 families of fallen policemen get cash, relief materials in Abia,Imo

About twenty-four (24) families of fallen policemen within the Abia State and Imo State Police Command, got cash and relief materials from the Peace Fund for Victims of Insecurity.

The South East Reporters gathered that the distribution of money and relief materials to the 24 families took place at both the Abia Police Command Headquarters, Umuahia and the Imo State Police Command Headquarters in Owerri.

Our correspondent reports that the fund is an initiative of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, which has attracted the support of other well-meaning Nigerians who have donated generously to it.

Mary Ikokwu, the secretary of Peace Fund for Victims of Insecurity, during the event said the Fund was created to succour families of security personnel who died on duty.

“The activities of the Fund is expected to extend to other parts of the Country which have been ravaged by insecurity.”

Mr Sam Hart, the Fund’s Publicity Secretary, thanked the Police Command in Abia for their warm reception of the delegation.

Hart praised the extra effort given their mission to succeeded stressing that such synergy between security agencies and civil population was highly needed to reset Nigeria on the part of peace.

CP Danladi Isah, Abia State Commissioner of Police, in his speech, welcomed the Fund’s representatives and appreciated Kalu for his vision in setting up the Fund.

Isah also appreciated all donors who have so far donated to the Fund and urged more donors to support the initiative.

He said that the Fund’s success in its job will encourage serving policemen to know that their families will be catered for if they should die on duty.

Isah said that the police, under IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has rolled out a number of laudable welfare schemes to support serving and deceased Policemen.

He however encouraged Nigerians to continue to do whatever they can to support the police who are daily in danger while securing the people.

The Secretary of Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), Mrs. Helen Okoye and President of Late Police Officers Wives Association (LAPOWA), Mrs. Vivian Nwogbe, thanked Kalu and the Command for their good gestures.

They expressed happiness over the initiative which they said would go a long way in alleviating the challenges of LAPOWA members.

In Imo State, ASP Henry Okoye, the Police Public Relations Officer said that the Peace Fund empowered ten families of deceased police officers, including those affected by the recent tragic attack in Ogbakwu.

Okoye said that each family received essential food items and one million naira to assist them in establishing a petty trade, providing vital support to sustain their livelihoods.

Representing the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, DCP Hammajoda Barka expressed gratitude for the initiative, emphasizing its role in uplifting the morale of serving personnel and reinforcing their commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of citizens.

Mrs. Asogwa, on behalf of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), also thanked the Peace Fund, recognizing the significant impact on the families of the fallen officers.

Beneficiary Mrs. Anyanwu Emmanuel conveyed heartfelt thanks, stating, “This support is a lifeline for us, providing immediate relief and instilling hope for a sustainable future.”

Okoye said that the Imo State Police Command remains dedicated to working with the Peace Fund and other organizations to support the families of officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the fight against crime.
